With multiple years’ worth of experience in geriatric medicine and research, Peninsula Health geriatrician and researcher Chris Moran is improving healthcare for some of the eldest people in our community.

“Every day is different but usually includes a combination of seeing patients, performing research and working with and encouraging junior clinical and research staff to reach their potential,” says Chris, who has recently been exploring the link between type 2 diabetes and dementia.

“The results from our study suggest that subtle changes in the brain can occur in mid to later life in people with type 2 diabetes. These changes may be related to factors in adulthood. We need to do more research to understand whether we can do things to reduce these changes and whether this leads to a reduction in dementia risk in later life.”

Celebrating Research Week returns October 26 to 28, recognising excellence and endeavour in the planning, conduct, execution and presentation of research, and when we will release our Research Report.
